Outdoor Sculptures: Bronze, Metal And Large Sculptures

Sculptures have always been a desired art form. Throughout history people have found a need for sculptures whether for worship, status, or statement. There is something profound about the presence of a sculpture.

Outdoor sculptures have always been popular by artists and art lovers alike. These sculptures are three dimensional works of art that can be of any given subject and created in many different styles. Given the location, outdoor sculptures can be much larger in size. Outdoor sculptures are most often made of durable and long lasting materials to withstand the elements.

Outdoor sculptures can be found in every city and town. They are wonderful displays for public areas like parks, in front of businesses, courtyards, and through public gardens. These are often very large in scale and offer some sort of statement or memorial. These types of sculptures are a wonderful way to add interest to an area. Some outdoor sculptures are only to be looked at, while other outdoor sculptures are made to be walked though and around. These are called interactive sculptures.

Outdoor sculptures are often displayed in front and back yards of homes. These outdoor sculptures are often smaller in scale. They accent the house and landscaping when displayed in the front yard. In the back yard, outdoor sculptures can be used in many ways depending on the yard and personal taste. An outdoor sculpture makes a great focal point for a garden area, as an accent piece next to the deck, or up against the corner of the yard. Because the back yard is a more private space, outdoor sculptures can be displayed in a more personal way depending on the homeowner.

Outdoor sculptures can be made in a variety of styles. The style of the piece varies from abstract to highly realistic with everything in between.

Texture and material give outdoor sculptures their look. Metal sculptures are very durable but can be heavy. However, many are metal plated laid over a lighter material such as foam. These outdoor sculptures have a wonderful aesthetic appeal because they shine in the light and show off all the details of the sculpture.

Copper is a commonly used material for outdoor sculptures because it is long lasting and has a natural look. When copper is left untreated, after several weeks it tarnishes and typically turns a dark copper-brown color. Over several years, untreated copper naturally develops a greenish blue patina. This occurs by oxidation on the surface creating a film or incrustation. Patina is often seen as having decorative value because it blends in with the natural outdoor surroundings.

Bronze is a very popular material for sculptures. It is a great material for outdoor sculptures particularly because of its life like look. Bronze is used in casting the sculpture from a mold. It has a natural golden color that reveals every detail of the mold. These sculptures can be heavy, but the look of them is worth all the weight in gold.

Carved sculptures are made from a large solid material that was reduced and shaped into the sculpture. Carved outdoor sculptures vary in size, but are smaller than most others. They are commonly made of stone, wood, and marble.

Outdoor sculptures can become part of there surroundings or they can enhance them. They are known to evoke emotions and get the mind thinking over its meaning. An outdoor sculpture can mean different things to different people, but they are a wonderful addition to any space.
